EMD E4 Diesel Units                                     Seaboard Air Line

SAL-E4ABA #3000/3100/3001  -  EMD Painting

The Seaboard Air Line was one of the leaders in the industry for applying new technology and equipment.  In an effort to dieselize the Orange Blossom Special  the SAL ordered three A-B-A sets of E units from EMC that were delivered in October & November of 1938.  Continuing its practice of giving each order a new model designation, EMC assigned the SAL units E4A and E4B.  As these were to operate in ABA sets, the units were uniquely equipped with tilt-out nose door and a modified pilot to allow passage of the crew between the units and the train.

An E4 A-B set was delivered in early in 1939 and seven additional E4A units and a single E4B unit were delivered between November and December 1939.

These hand-crafted locomotives from Ajin will be available only factory finished - DCC decoder equipped, including constant intensity lighting, Mars lighting, speaker box for future sound installation, both open and closed pilots, separate train name boards for the "Orange Blossom Special" and the "Silver Meteor," Kadee® couplers installed, and full cab interiors.  See your dealer to reserve yours now!
